One of the most searched terms on our website is vegan! A lifestyle choice as opposed to the scents or aromas we do for our candles and soy melts. So, it got me thinking… In terms of my marketing I usually focus more on the “the smell” of our products rather than the ingredients. It’s interesting because consumerism is changing and as a business we need to be what our consumers want as well as letting them know how we are meeting those needs.
For the most part I try to live my life as earth friendly as possible; and have tried to reflect this in my business principles. It. Is. Hard! It’s so easy to put up pretty pictures on Instagram hashtag eco-friendly hashtag natural etc, but in reality those words have many meanings and in marketing, those words have many meanings. Some words can be said, some words can be left out and the weirdness of it all can be left to hang in the air like a bad smell! (well not here!!) So, I’ve tried to unpack this a bit for you below.
From the beginning, I’ve tried to design an ethical business, with a low carbon footprint that produces high quality products at an affordable price! Big words, in such a short sentence that form the cornerstone of who we are as a business. The great thing about the industry we are in is that we can choose what goes into the makeup of our products. So with this in mind, I developed formulas from day one that were as closely aligned with our beliefs as possible. It isn’t perfect, we still have lots to do, so I’ll happily admit to being a work in process.
So, what’s in our products I hear you ask, well here it is:-
Soy wax made from the oil of soybeans is a completely renewable resource. The more we grow in the world, the more there is. (Yay for supporting farmers and growers!) Unlike paraffin, it is 100% vegetable, natural, plant based and biodegradable. Soy wax burns clean and is non-toxic, so no nasties are released into the air.
Fragrance: We have 2 candle ranges, one is pure essential oils (you can find these in our Aromatherapy section) and the other is a blend of essential oils and fragrance (you can find these under candles). The fragrance oils are all highly purified and are guaranteed to be free of phthalates, paraffin and UV inhibitors. Why do we blend these? The sole aim of our business is to make your home smell amazing and the only way to achieve this within our pricing structure is to include fragrance as well as essential oils in our candle and wax melt scents. Our pure aromatherapy range of bath salts, foot soaks and essential oil blends are all 100% pure and natural. These are perfect for creating a natural scent in diffusers and burners.
Candle Wicks: Made from cotton, our wicks are braided with paper fibers to increase their rigidity and are free from lead and zinc.
Containers: All our candle vessels are glass. Classic simple designs that can be recycled and reused in many ways after the candles have finished. Our wax melts are moulded in production and then un-moulded into brown bags rather than using plastic sleeves. Way more time consuming, but way kinder on the environment.
Packaging: We use soft wood shavings, natural brown paper and string where possible. The majority of our orders go out in cardboard boxes, for those that don’t, our courier bags are compostable.
